Public Relations and Communications Director

CareFlite is a 501-c3, Texas not for profit organization that provides medical transportation by helicopter, airplane, and ground ambulance. We have over 50 EMS stations across DFW, and our corporate headquarters are in Grand Prairie, TX.                                                                                          

As a valued member of Team CareFlite, you bring help and hope to patients and families following a terrible trauma, a sudden medical event, or any medical transport.

We are looking for a Public Relations and Communications professional with a strong work ethic and exceptional writing and organizational skills.  As the Public Relations and Communications Director, you will work closely with CareFlite’s CEO and leadership team to develop positive public relations and be CareFlite’s Communications Ambassador.

In this role, you will develop high-quality content assets for marketing campaigns and initiatives that meet business objectives and elevate brand awareness. You will complete the full lifecycle of content development projects from kick-off through conceptual design, refinement, writing, editing, production and content management. Additionally, you will ensure content is fully leveraged across a wide range of digital assets including infographics, presentations, custom illustrations, process diagrams, animation, graphs and charts, icons and other digital assets for use in communication and public relations campaigns and initiatives and drive favorable perceptions with internal and external stakeholder audiences.

This position reports to and is evaluated by the Chief Executive Officer

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement an engaging and multi-faceted communications strategy that regularly and positively informs internal and external employees and customers on CareFlite updates, news, announcements, and newsletters.
  • Establish and utilize protocols to ensure all communications include high-quality and error-free messaging and content.  Perform quality control and proofing for all content prior to distribution of final deliverables.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team on content development projects of variable scope, complexity, and length in ways that best elevate creative thinking and enable non-writers to appreciate the content possibilities and limitations of each project.
  • Collaborate with all CareFlite departments in rolling out corporate-wide employee communications initiatives.
  • Track and report to the leadership team, public relations and communications campaigns and project results and identify and help solve potential roadblocks related to resources and timelines
  • Proactively serve as a point of contact for multiple media outlets; including researching, targeting, and fostering relationships with key press representatives to promote assigned messaging.
  • Assist the CEO with responses to media inquiries and other collaborative departmental activities as assigned.
  • Acquire and maintain a detailed knowledge of CareFlite’s culture, policies, principles, and strategies.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and meet communications and business objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with all departments to respond to all customer feedback received via social media.
  • Manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Seek strategic communications and public relations opportunities with customers, hospital, EMS, and other partners to promote CareFlite’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Develop metrics to track successful communications and public relations efforts by understanding impressions and results.

 

DIGITAL AND SOCIAL MEDIA STRATIGIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write memorable, engaging communications across all channels that drive awareness of key initiatives and communicate CareFlite values and mission. (e.g. email, digital screens, web pages, social media content and print material.
  • Publish content via social media platforms and serve as the primary point of contact for customer engagement and feedback through those platforms.
  • Manage a content library of communication and public relations tools, including uploading and maintaining those assets in a digital library system and/or other platform.
  • Manage CareFlite’s website presence by collaborating with the CareFlite IT team.
  • Plan and manage email campaigns both internally and externally.
  • Monitors, reviews and develops reports on media coverage - analyzing and reporting on relevant media coverage and public response.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE REQUIREMENTS

  • Works well under pressure, be flexible, handle multiple projects including unexpected projects with urgent deadlines.
  • Has strong design, layout, editing, proofreading, and publishing skills.
  • Is highly computer literate with proficiency in related business and communications tools.
  • Provides high quality and excellent customer service to the CareFlite team, patients, customers, and the public.
  • Has excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with a collaborative spirit.
  • Can quickly translate brainstorming discussions and big picture ideas into relevant content outlines and drafts.
  • Can actively engage with content and colleagues to tell a story.
  • Is a forward-thinking communicator and highly creative writer experienced in crafting compelling messaging and narratives; can generate and implement "breakout" ideas.
  • Has experience working with partners to produce events and develop presentation content and coordinate follow-up engagement
  • Has experience leading agencies and design teams to build short, impactful multimedia communications on fast timelines.
  • Has well developed project management skills with the ability to balance multiple projects and re-prioritize on the fly. High degree of organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.

  • A portfolio for review including work samples is encouraged.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field required.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in communications strategy development.
  • Relevant experience with not-for-profit organizations and healthcare is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Possesses a strong aptitude for development and management of websites and other digital marketing platforms.
  • Knowledge of current trends and standards across the EMS/healthcare industry preferred.
